Kinesiotape is a treatment technique using a special elastic tape (very similar to human skin, both in thickness and elasticity) designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the effect of other forms of manual therapy received.
The tape can, when applied correctly, lift the skin to create a small space between the muscles and the dermis layers. This space takes the pressure off swelling or injured soft tissue, allowing smooth muscle movement and increase circulation.
This is not a tape you can just buy in the shop and apply it yourself, expecting wonderful results. It takes training to learn how to use it and understand the mechanisms behind it.
