ART® – Active Release Techniques

ART® is a patented state-of-the-art soft tissue treatment technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.

All these structures are commonly affected by overuse, also known as Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD). Such conditions can often be resolved quickly and permanently with ART®.

This technique has been very popular in North-America and Canada for many years. The founder Dr Mike Leahy has spent more that 30 years developing and fine-tuning this technique. It is now becoming more readily available in Europa as well as Asia and Australia.

ART® is used to improve flexibility and function in and in-between different structures.
Every ART® session is a combination of assessment and treatment.
The ART® provider uses his hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves.
Abnormal tissues are treated by precisely directed tension combined with very specific patient movements.

This treatment form require the therapist to have an extremely high level of anatomy knowledge and some form of medical background.

It takes years of practice to master this treatment technique. It has taken Paul nearly 10 years to become an Certified International Instructor in ART®, enabling him to teach other Physiotherapist, Chiropator, Osteopaths etc.

IASTM

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation

This is a treatment technique were the therapist use specially designed tools on the body to elicit a positive change in the body. It is used to treat pain and injury and to address tightness or limited range of movement from restricted soft tissues.

This treatment can promote a healing or physiological response by the body to change the soft tissues at a cellular level. This can soften and reduce scar tissue as well as make injured tissues stronger.

It can also have a significant effect on nerves and the surrounding muscles and fascia.

DNS

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation

This is a way of exercising in order to stimulate natural movement patterns.

Our brain is equipped with a ‘default program’, which is stimulated and developed during the first critical years of life.

During life we are affected by bad habits, injuries, illnesses and environmental factors that start to interfere with this default program and cause bad movement patterns.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Fine  stainless steel needles are inserted at very specific points in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes. The purpose is to alter the flow of ‘Qi’ (or energy) along one or more of the 13 meridians (energy channels).

NEEDLING

Trigger Points

Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MDS) is characterized by the presence of Myofascial Trigger Points (PGM) or Tigger Points: “hypersensitive nodules within a tight band of a muscle.” These trigger points are characterized by being painful, limiting joint movement, and producing muscle imbalance. In addition, if they are active, they can give referred pain in another body area.
Deep Dry Puncture is a current physical therapy technique with proven evidence, which acts on these PGMs causing the destruction of these nodules. It consists of the application of needles (the same ones used in acupuncture) on the nodule in question, so that the local spasm response obtained when performing the dry needling will inactivate the trigger point and destroy the area of dysfunction.

KINESIOTAPING

Kinesiology Tape

This is a treatment technique using a special elastic tape (very similar to human skin, both in thickness and elasticity) designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong.
